A Legacy of Faith, Perseverance, and Christian Education
Louisville Adventist Academy has a long and meaningful history rooted in the mission of providing Christ‑centered education to families in the Louisville area. From humble beginnings in a rented storefront to our current campus serving students in PreK–12, our story is one of God’s leading, community dedication, and a commitment to nurturing young people for service in this world and the world to come.
For more than a century, Adventist education in Louisville has adapted, grown, relocated, and rebuilt — always with the same purpose: to help students know Jesus, love Jesus, share Jesus, and serve Jesus. Each chapter of our story reflects the faith and determination of teachers, families, and church members who believed deeply in the value of Christian education.
Today, as we expand our facilities and prepare for the future, we stand on the shoulders of those who built and rebuilt this school through prayer, sacrifice, and unwavering mission.
A Timeline of Our Journey
1909 — Humble Beginnings
A small church school opens in a rented store room at 26th and Hale Streets. Students sit on the floor and use the pew seats as desks — a simple beginning built on deep faith.
1911 — A New Home in Louisville First SDA Church
The school moves to the Louisville First Seventh‑day Adventist Church at 17th and Jefferson Streets. Two classes meet: one in a rear room, the other inside the sanctuary.
1923 — Growing Enrollment
Enrollment reaches 36 students across nine grades. When the church building is sold, the school relocates to a grocery storeroom on 18th Street between Market and Jefferson.
1924 — Moving to the New Church Building
The church school moves again, this time to the newly built church at 1621 South Fourth Street.
1949–1951 — A Dedicated School Building
A house next to the church is purchased and converted into a school. Students and teachers move into the renovated building in 1951.
1959 — Louisville Junior Academy Expands
The school relocates to Southside Drive with 74 students in ten grades — a major step forward in space and capacity.
Mid‑1980s — A Season of Transition
The Southside school building is sold, and Louisville Junior Academy temporarily closes.
1988 — A New Beginning
The school reopens at its current location, once again serving ten grades and rebuilding its program and community.
2010 — Continued Growth
Enrollment exceeds 70 students across twelve grades. Plans begin for additional classrooms and a gymnasium to support the expanding upper‑grade program.
Today — Building for the Future
LAA is now moving forward with long‑awaited expansion plans, adding new classrooms and preparing for the next chapter of growth. Our mission remains the same: to provide a Christ‑centered education that nurtures the whole child.
A Story Still Being Written
From a storefront classroom in 1909 to a thriving academy today, Louisville Adventist Academy has been shaped by God’s leading and the dedication of countless families, teachers, and church members. Every move, every challenge, and every season of growth has strengthened our commitment to Christian education.
As we expand our facilities and look toward the future, we continue the legacy of those who came before us — preparing students to live with purpose, lead with character, and follow Jesus wherever He calls.
